Houston's Black Owned Winery - Pur Noire Urban Winery

We at Infuse Wine do not only have our own wine but we are wine lovers. We wanted to take the time to start going to more wine bars, wineries, and wine cellars and not only try different wines from small businesses but support them. After we read an amazing article by The Houston Eater we thought this would be a great winery to try and Well as a black-owned wine company, we had to support Pur Noire Urban Winery in Houston Texas.

What The Article Said About Pour Noire

Pour Noire "is a project from married couple Carissa and Kenneth Stephens, who fell in love with wine while on a vacation to Italy in 2015." After both Kenneth and Carissa started taking an interest in investing in business opportunities. They decided to take their passion for wine and open an Urban Winery in Houston Tx. They chose the name Pur Noire, to pay homage to Carissa’s French-Creole roots, and launched 4 wines in March of 2020.

According to the article " They’ve hired a winemaker from California who has made a number of 90-plus point pinot noirs and relocated her to Houston to guide the process. About The Winery And Area." They opened in 2021 and have been thriving ever since.

So, with that being said we HAD to go and check it out

Our Thoughts About Pour Noire

First, let us say the location is PERFECT!! It was super easy to get to, I can say I'm quite jealous because the location is everything. It is right downtown close to Bagby street and not too far from Minute Made Park and there is NO WAY you will miss the building. (It's Yellow). Parking was fairly easy as well. Of course, being downtown it can get pretty congested but there was plenty of street parking. They also offer validated self-parking when you reserve a tasting. This should be fine because members can only buy by the glass, so you may want to go ahead and reserve a tasting. Just do it, it is not expensive.

About the wine tastings

This was my favorite part, of course, because I was able to drink wine. But because the staff made the experience great! We were greeted at the door and sat promptly. Our server Terrian and their wine expert Brian were great. Terrian walked us through our wine tasting. She was very knowledgeable about the brand and made sure to give us time to enjoy the wine and came back once we were ready for the next tasting. Brian, made sure to check on us as we were being walked through our tasting which was amazing that we had such great service while trying these wines. My group went all in and did the Pur Noire Grand Flight, I would suggest that. This consisted of 6 of their wines, I added the Port to mine, so 7 wines we tasted. 😆 The more the better.... At least that's what I say.

How did we like the wines?

Of course, because I am a wine drinker I did enjoy the wines. They were very different than what I sell at Infuse Wine, but they all had their unique flavor and story behind them. I am a Merlot fan, so the Merlot was good not as bold as I am used to, but something I would want again. If you are a sweet wine drinker, this may not be the place for you though. Not one of the wines we tried was sweet, besides the Port of course. The wines were mainly dry or semi-dry, in my taste. My guests believed they were all about the same in tone. If you are a fan of dryer wines then you will love the flights. They did run out of Pur Euphoria Tempranillo Rose, which I heard was amazing but I am not sure about the sweetness level of that one. I am a HUUUGGGEEEE fan of sparkling wines, so I will go back to try.

So which wine made the cut!! Welp the Port of course. I like sweet, Semi-Sweet, Dry, and Semi-dry wines but this wine was the best from the flight, followed by the Merlot and Cabernet.

All in All we had a great time at Pur Noire and can't wait to go back to try more. #wine #winebar #winery #blackownedwine #blackownedwinery #winebarnearme
